Let's Get Bowling Cornwall!

An exciting new Cornish website is enabling and challenging the county to have a go at something they maybe wouldn't usually consider trying - bowls!

www.getactivecornwall.co.uk, a new website developed specifically to inspire and motivate Cornish residents to be more active is now up and running. Designed to help us all achieve our 5 x 30 minutes of exercise a week, Get Active Cornwall provides useful tips and advice on how to get started and to find the right activity for you. Without preaching, it explains the benefits of being active and keeping fit; in an attempt to coax us gently off our sofa and on our feet!

Every month the new website will be focussing on a different activity and finding ways to make it easier for absolutely anyone to give it a go, with special free or low cost sessions designed specifically for beginners. And, this September they're challenging us to get bowling!

It may be perceived as an older persons' sport but, quite understandably, more and more young people are getting involved and it has recently received some celebrity endorsement with Gavin & Stacey's Mathew Horne and T4 presenter Rick Edwards taking part in a niche bowling event in London.

Now it's your chance to give it a go! In collaboration with The Cornwall Bowls Alliance, the following indoor bowls clubs will be opening their doors throughout September to welcome anyone who wants to try out their jack skills and draw shots during free Taster Sessions and Club Open Days: Bodmin, Caradon in Liskeard, Carnmoggas in St Austell, Newquay and Veryan.

Each of the clubs will be offering free taster sessions at different times throughout the month; during these sessions you'll be able to find out just what the sport has to offer and receive some expert bowls tuition from an experienced coach.

You also have the chance to go along and meet the club, test your bowling skills and generally see what bowls is all about during informal drop-in Open Days, happening on various dates throughout the month.

With plenty of opportunities to get bowling this month, why not give it a go and surprise yourself! For further details, click here!
