What is the Challenge? The main aim of the challenge is to get more active! To help you visualise this and set yourself a target, we have developed the Get Active Challenge tool which gives you the ultimate aim of travelling around Cornwall by converting any physical activity that you do into miles.
If you want to just record your steps you can but you are also able to record any minutes you've spent swimming, playing football, in the gym, on your bike, at a yoga class, doing the gardening... anything active! And, the more active you get, the further you'll go!
2,000 steps equates to 1 mile, as does 15 minutes of physical activity. Because exercise is so relative to the individual, the Challenge measures all activities using the same calculation.
We will be running Official Challenges throughout the year which you can take part in as part of a team with your workmates but you can also set yourself Personal Challenges or Private Team Challenges at any time.
The 6 week Official Challenge will run at different times throughout the year and is open to companies across Cornwall to enter teams of 3-5 workmates to exercise their virtual way around Cornwall as part of a team.
The aim of the challenge is exactly the same as the normal Get Active Challenge except that we level out the "walking-ground" for you by averaging and weighting the distance you travel (so, if there are only 3 people in your team, the system works out an accumulative average as if there were actually 5 people in your team).
To achieve the Challenge and complete the virtual walk around Cornwall (which is 350 miles) you will need to achieve 60 miles' worth of physical activity between you a week. Therefore, everyone in your team will each need to achieve at least 12 miles a week, which is the equivalent to 3 hours of physical activity or 24,000 steps.
This is viewable by anyone looking at the website, you do not need to be a registered user. To take part in the official challenge you have to be a registered user, must have completed the medical questionnaire and be assigned to a company team.
Private team challenges
Once you have registered and have completed the medical questionnaire you are able to setup or join company teams and set your own private team challenges. You also have the option of creating teams that are not associated to companies where you can invite your friends to join you, however these will not be included in the Official Get Active Challenge.
Personal challenges
Again, once you have registered and have completed the medical questionnaire you are also able to set yourself challenges.
